ABOUT KAT
Kat Matthews is a professional triathlete specializing in middle- and long-distance racing.
Her journey into the sport began unexpectedly in 2017 while serving as a Captain in the British Army. Encouraged by a friend to try triathlon as a way to stay fit, she quickly found herself excelling—so much so that she is now the vice world champion in both IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3.
Sport has always been a part of Kat’s life. Growing up, she ran cross country and played field hockey before pursuing a career as a physiotherapist. Her passion for helping others led her to the Army, where she worked extensively with wounded soldiers in their rehabilitation. While physiotherapy remains a deep interest, her focus has since shifted to competing at the highest level of triathlon.
In 2022, Kat’s career and life nearly took a tragic turn when she was hit by a car, suffering a broken spine and skull, multiple fractures, and severe lacerations requiring 50 stitches. Yet, less than a year later, she returned to racing—stronger than ever. Her comeback was fueled by her knowledge of the human body, but even more so by sheer determination.
Kat's ultimate goal remains clear: winning the IRONMAN World Championship. Two second-place finishes aren't enough for this fierce competitor, she's chasing the top of that podium.
